Meditation should be easy.  It is a tool that can be used to help us center our minds and bodies, calm our thoughts and easy daily mental or emotional challenges.  I find that when I mention meditation, many people share the difficulty they have experienced when trying to meditate.  Often I hear the person report that they are not able to focus, or to calm their mind.

Meditation is not something that should be difficult.  There should not be a sense that you can do it wrong, or that you need to achieve any particular state. Instead, it is more about letting go and becoming aware of your current state of being.  Keep in mind that there are many different techniques for meditating and that a beginner should start with one that is appropriate for a beginner. That being said, I would like to share a very simple technique that is excellent for beginning meditators.

This meditation is considered a mindfulness meditation. Here is a short video to get you started in this simple technique (Mindfulness Meditation). The main goal is to simply close your eyes and direct your attention to your breath for at least 5 minutes.  No special breathing is needed, just breathe normal.  Keep your focus on your breath.  If thoughts creep into your mind, which they will, just notice them.  After you have noticed them, without any judgment, just let go of them and return your attention to your breath.  It is that simple! As you practice this regularly it will get easier and easier.

Some of the rewards you may expect to gain from this practice include: reduced stress and anxiety, clearer mind and sharper thinking, and a general feeling of wellbeing and health.  The list of scientifically verified benefits of meditation are vast, I recommend giving it a try and seeing for yourself! Happy Meditating. :)
